ADMISSION
CARDS:
Admission cards and camp luggage tags will be issued
upon receipt of payment, your fully completed medical form and
camper information form. Campers will not be allowed on the bus or
into camp without an admission card.
BUNKS:
We
cannot guarantee placing your child in a specific bunk with her
friends. Our administration does its best to make the bunks
compatible. DO NOT PROMISE YOUR CHILD PLACEMENT WITH A FRIEND OR
RELATIVE. All information regarding your child's placement must be
resubmitted annually.
TRANSPORTATION:
Chartered buses are available to transport the campers
directly to camp. Be sure to arrange for someone to meet your child
when she returns from camp. Please note the dates on the cover of
the application form. Specific times will be furnished at a later date.
Transportation to the airport (going home only) can be arranged.
Please check off Airport Transportation on your daughters
application and more information will follow at a later
date.
MISCELLANEOUS
EXPENSES:
Younger campers are permitted to use the canteen on
hike days ONLY. We suggest $20 as a sufficient amount of money to be
sent with campers. Older campers have different arrangements.
(please read letter attached to application form)
TIPPING:
Camp policy does not permit tipping. Please obey this
important regulation. We will do everything possible to help your
child have a most enjoyable and memorable
vacation.
MEDICAL CARE:
Every camper must have
a physical examination before coming to camp. This examination
should be made by your personal physician who knows the child best.
We reserve the right to limit certain camp activities to ensure the
safety and health of your child. Please inform your daughter that
children with medical conditions will be evaluated on an individual
basis. Please have the doctor complete the medial form (to be
provided at a later date). This form must be submitted to the
New York
office no later than
May 15th, with a parent/guardian signature in the space
provided. The doctor must verify the status of your child's Tetanus
shot at the time of the medical examination.
Upon arrival at camp, all camper are brought to the
infirmary for a head check. Due to the prevalence of nits in
schools, please check your child's hair carefully. Shampooing is
not sufficient. Please make sure that her hair is completely free of
nits in order to save you the inconvenience of coming to camp to
clean her and to save her any embarrassment. There will be a minimum
charge of $50 for any camper who we agree to clean in
camp.
Camp
Sternberg
maintains an infirmary
with a doctor and two nurses in residence. In case of accidents or
illness requiring special medial attention, bills for treatment will
be submitted to your insurance plan. Please be sure the name and
policy number of your insurance company is on the camper medical
form. The camp or its insurance company will not pay for any
pre-existing conditions, illness or accidents during the camp
season. It is a violation of the Board of Health regulations for
campers to have even over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol,
Advil or cough medicines in the bunk.
The infirmary is fully equipped with these items and
by law only our medical personnel may dispense them. All medication,
prescriptions or otherwise, must be given to the infirmary upon
arrival to camp.
NAME TAGS & LOST
AND FOUND:
Name tags must be sewn or ironed on all clothing
regardless of whether it will be laundered or not. It is crucial to
have name tapes sewn on anything your child brings to camp. The
owner recovers almost all labeled items while unlabeled items remain
in camp. Name stamps are a waste of time and money since we usually
cannot read them. Please be aware that all lost and found items are
held for one week past your child's stay and are then disposed of in
an appropriate manner. Please tag all of your daughters clothing and
label glasses, dental appliance cases, cameras, and
toiletries.
LAUNDRY:
Your camp fee includes laundry service for campers
clothing.
LOST LUGGAGE:
Camp has no insurance for lost luggage. We do our best
to assure timely and secure deliveries. All luggage must be sturdy,
tagged with the appropriate color tags and have the child's name and
address. No cartons or garbage bags are acceptable luggage as they
are often put with the trash. No trunks please.
ELECTRONIC
EQUIPMENT:
Electronic equipment should not be sent to camp. We
strongly request no radios, cell phones or walkie
talkies.
GENERAL
INFORMATION:
The overall proportion of staff to campers is 1 to 3.
the health and social welfare of every camper is of primary concern
to the camp administration and the living conditions for every group
are carefully supervised.
BOARD OF
HEALTH:
The New York State
Department of Health licenses
Camp
Sternberg
. The Board of Health
inspects the camp twice a year and inspection reports are kept on
file in the camp office.
VISITING:
No
visitors are permitted at camp. There is one visiting day during the
summer session and bus travel arrangements are available.
Unauthorized visits by parents, relatives or friends are not
permitted. Our primary interest is to have a smooth and
uninterrupted program. An unexpected visit is disruptive to the
camping program in general as well as to the individual camper. This
rule has been instituted to benefit all campers. Please inform
relatives and friends about this rule.
TELEPHONE AND
CORRESPONDENCE:
Parents may telephone the camp concerning the welfare
of their child, but are requested not to abuse this privilege. The
camp number is 845-252-3974. Please do not ask to be connected with
a camper. The children are encouraged to write home regularly. May
we request that you write a postcard at least every other day. This
is important for your daughters enjoyment of her stay. It is very
important that you leave a phone number or name and address of a
family member to contact if you will not be home at any point during
your child's stay at camp. Please include this information on the
application form. Please inform us of any summer plans that develop
after you have sent in the camper information
sheet.
The city office will
be closed from Thursday, June 21st through Monday, August
27th. Please call the camp directly if you have any
questions or concerns. If you have any questions about your billing
account, please call the upstate camp office of
Camp
Mogen
Avraham at
845-583-4100.
PACKAGES:
The sending of unnecessary clothing and food packages
is in direct conflict with the camp's philosophy of minimizing
competition among campers. We therefore insist that no such packages
be shipped to campers. If you must send missing clothing or other
urgently needed articles please mark this clearly on the outside of
the package or it will be sent back.
BIRTHDAY CAKES:
If
you would like your daughter to celebrate her birthday while at
camp, we offer birthday cakes that can generously serve an entire
bunk for $25. Please call the camp office to place an
order.
LEAVING CAMP:
Campers should plan to
stay for the entire trip unless there is an occasion involving a
close relative. Leaving in the middle of a session breaks up the
program's continuity. The parent/guardian must finalize all
arrangements for the camper's leaving and return before calling
camp. We will need to know who will be picking her up (only a
relative over 21 please!). No camper will be admitted or released
after
8:30 PM
.
